Our Services
Courage to Change Curriculum
We believe in the power of second chances and the strength within every individual to overcome challenges. Our services are designed to provide support, guidance, and resources to help individuals rebuild their lives and achieve lasting wellness.
Introduction
“Courage to Change” is a 6-week course on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 PM.
This course educates and challenges all those who attend. It provides tools for personal
growth, preparing participants to transition back into the community.

SPARE uses a life skills approach during incarceration and then post-release within the community setting. We have adopted a Whole Person approach by focusing on all 8 Dimensions of Wellness. We collaborate with various outside services to continue the aftercare part of our program.
These services include treatment for substance use, recovery support, employment assistance, food, housing, health, and more. Life skills training teaches the value of hard work, the importance of health and wellness, respect for other people, and their property, and personal responsibility for choices that affect both the participant and the community.
Our program helps instill the “Courage to Change” in spirit, mind, and body.

Week #1: Life Skills – Being Self-Sufficient & Engaging in Your Community
Self-sufficiency is about gaining the skills and confidence to take control of your life, make responsible decisions, and thrive independently. Equally important is community involvement, which helps build meaningful connections and support systems that contribute to personal growth and long-term success

Week #2: Responsible Thinking – Correcting Errors in Thinking & Growth & Development
Our thoughts shape our choices, and our choices shape our lives. Responsible thinking is about recognizing negative or faulty thought patterns and replacing them with positive, constructive ones.

Week #3: Developing Positive Coping Skills – Adjusting to Community Living by Learning to Maintain Wellness
Wellness is more than just physical health—it’s a balance of mental, emotional, and social well-being. Maintaining wellness helps individuals adjust to community living, build stability, and develop long-term success.
Week #4: Healthy Relationships – Building and Maintaining Positive Peer Relationships
Positive relationships are key to personal growth and stability. The people we surround ourselves with influence our mindset, choices, and overall well-being.

Week #5: Wrap-Up & Aftercare – Preventing Relapse and Progressing Toward Life Goals
The journey doesn’t end here. Maintaining progress requires continued effort, self-awareness, and the right support system.

Week #6: Wrap-Up & Crisis Plan – Preparing for Emergencies and Staying Resilient
Life can be unpredictable, and challenges may arise even after making progress. Having a well-structured crisis plan ensures that when difficulties occur, you have a clear course of action.
